Louis C.K. is one of the most commercially recognized and successful stand-up comedians to come out of the decade. He is also an actor, filmmaker, and screenwriter. C.K.’s writing works for The Chris Rock Show, Louie, and his stand-up specials have earned him several awards, including six Primetime Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and three Grammy Awards. In 2017, C.K. was ranked fourth in the “50 Best Stand-Up Comics of All Time. Meanwhile, his sixth stand-up special, Shameless, was ranked third on Rolling Stone’s 25 Best Stand-up Specials of All Time.
Indeed, C.K.’s comedy work is unprecedented, and he has helped develop many major comedy programs in the U.S. Earlier in his career, C.K. worked behind the scenes as a writer. His material has been used by major talk show hosts, such as Conan O’Brien, David Letterman, Chris Rock, and Dana Carvey. In 1996, C.K. released his first comedy special with HBO. In 2001, his stand-up set was featured in Comedy Central, and he released a comedy concert, Live in Houston, on his website. In 2007, he dropped another critically-acclaimed HBO comedy special, Shameless. Three years later, he starred in his own semi-biographical drama series, Louie, which ran until 2015. The series won him five Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. By 2012, C.K. earned his first Grammy Award for his 2010 comedy album, Hilarious. He later won the same awards in 2016 for Live at Madison Square Garden and in 2022 for Sincerely Louis C.K.
