North Carolina-born band, The Avett Brothers is a prolific purveyor of folk rock music that is often infused with genres such as indie, bluegrass, and Americana. The band, led by brothers Seth and Scott Avett, emerged in 2000 after releasing their self-titled EP. The band dropped their debut studio album, Country Was, two years later. In 2007, the band released their last independent album before their major label debut. Emotionalism was their first record to enter the Billboard 200. Their exemplary work with the album garnered them two Americana Music Honors & Awards for categories, Emerging Artist of the Year and Duo/Group of the Year.
But it wasn’t until the release of their sixth effort, I and Love and You, that the band made their first breakthrough. The 2009 album featured two top ten Adult Alternative Airplay hits, the title track and “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise.” The album also entered Billboard 200’s top 20, dominating the Folk Albums chart. The breakthrough album eventually sold over 500,000 copies.
In 2016, The Avett Brothers released their highest charting effort, True Sadness. The ninth studio album topped two Billboard charts (Rock and Folk) and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200. The following year, True Sadness received a nomination for Best Americana Album, while its lead single, “Ain’t No Man,” received a Grammy nod for Best Americana Roots Performance.
