Broadway fan or not, audiences in Louisiana now have another reason to be excited, as The Book of Mormon will be having a production in New Orleans, staged at Saenger Theatre on Saturday 16th May 2026. Experience unending laughter from watching the production of the same creators of South Park and the musical Avenue Q.

The Book of Mormon is a show about religious conversion, specifically of the journey of Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, who through original methods, pull out all stops to convert villagers of a local village in Uganda. This Tony Award-winning show, that has eventually continued to have successful productions in the U.S., London, and Australia, running for more than a decade to date, unmasks the way religious stories are told, with comedy through classical theatre and showtunes.

Saenger Theatre

Well-known as one of the greatest theatre venues in New Orleans, Saenger Theatre has always been the fans' top choice as a play or show venue, largely because of its impressive interior and exterior architecture that is both spacious and well-decorated. The play will be staged for a limited time in Saenger Theatre in May, on Saturday 16th May 2026.

Robert Lopez, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone, once again succeeded in creating another comedy masterpiece but in an entirely new medium for them. This time being in on the Broadway stage. The Book of Mormon, centered on Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, two Mormon missionaries of the Latter-day Saints (LDS) religion, are assigned to baptize and convert the local population of a village in Uganda. The show, despite the risk of offending the church, delves away from a serious approach to telling this story, as it instead uses comedy and even blasphemy to make light of the way religion is taught and religious stories are told.

Fans and critics globally and for the past decade since its Broadway premiere in 2011 have generally received The Book of Mormon positively. Despite mocking religious teachings, and often satirical, it also comes with a warm and serious tone beneath its language. Throughout its two acts, the musical perfectly remolds itself from a play full of cursing, sex, and obscenity to a story that challenges and provokes thought. The New York Times recognizes this and stated that “The central theme of The Book of Mormon is that many religious stories are silly – the idea that God would plant golden plates in upstate New York. Many religious doctrines are rigid and out of touch. But religion itself can do enormous good as long as people take religious teaching metaphorically and not literally; as long as people understand that all religions ultimately preach love.”
