The Story

Set in 1922 New York, the tale follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway as he rents a humble cottage adjacent to the extravagant millionaire Jay Gatsby. Intrigued by Gatsby's lavish lifestyle and mysterious persona, Nick discovers Gatsby's intense quest to reunite with his former love, Daisy Buchanan. The story takes a turn into unrealistic aspirations amidst societal excess. Through soaring songs like "Roaring On," the musical crafts a tale of passion, deception and inevitable downfall.

The Production

This outstanding show is put together by a talented team led by Ryan McCartan as the charismatic Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the ethereal Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the witty Jordan Baker, Austin Colby as the domineering Tom Buchanan, and Eric Anderson as the cunning Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with dynamic choreography by Dominique Kelley and an original score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Adapted on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 classic, "The Great Gatsby" premiered at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 before making its Broadway premiere in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. This version respects the novel's legacy while giving it a contemporary musical flair, marking the first major Broadway production of the story. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, celebrating its lavish 1920s styles.
