Synopsis

Set at the time of the Great Depression, Water for Elephants follows young Jacob Jankowski, a veterinary student whose life crumbles after a devastating loss. Desperate and directionless, he jumps onto a moving train, only to discover it's the home of the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth - a ragtag circus teetering on the edge of. As Jacob looks after the animals, including the majestic elephant Rosie, he falls deeply in love with Marlena, the beautiful star performer already in a abusive marriage to the tyrannical ringmaster, August. Told through memories from an elderly Jacob's perspective, the story highlights themes of optimism, forbidden romance, and the wonder of the big top.
