Saenger Theatre
Broadway, New York is the home of an additional important show, Disney's The Lion King, as it continues its successful run with one more limited season to be held on Wednesday 28th October 2026 at 7:30 PM in Saenger theatre, located in New Orleans, Louisiana. With amazing facilities and equipment found in the interior and exterior of the aforementioned location, locals have proclaimed that Saenger theater - a historic atmospheric theater opened in 1927 and beautifully restored after Hurricane Katrina - still is one of their favored show theater venues for the longest time. The musical recounts the coming-of-age story of a young lion cub called Simba, who is fated by birthright to lead as the King of the Pride Lands succeeding his father. The African safari however is filled with secrecy and internal strife, as even in this innocent and easygoing plot, disaster comes when the young lion's father and King is murdered because of the intent of his estranged uncle Scar, who wishes to take over as King of the Pride Lands. The young Simba fears for his own life and goes into hiding lasting a long period of time. While away in the forest, he meets new companions, Timon and Pumbaa, who encourage him to forget his past and live life on his own terms. His relaxed demeanor then turns upside down when he once again chances upon his long-time friend Nala, who encourages him to return to the Pride Lands and appeals to him to retake his rightful place as king. This heartfelt and personal story telling of tragedy, strong bonds and fearless leadership is amplified by the familiar classic songs, penned by Elton John and Tim Rice. Their original compositions, partnered with additional songs and lyrics from other composers such as Zimmer, Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin and director Julie Taymor have contributed to the immense success of the musical not just in local performances, but also in several tours all over the world. The North American Tour features principal cast members including Peter Hargrave as Scar and David D'Lancy Wilson as Mufasa (subject to change). The original stage adaptation began on July 8, 1997, at the Orpheum theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The musical was received so well by fans and was praised for its unique execution, leading to its transfer and beginnings in Broadway, New York on October 15, 1997. Now running for more than two decades since its debut, it's now your chance to see the third longest-running musical from Broadway, New York as it arrives in Louisiana as part of the Broadway in New Orleans series, running October 21 - November 8, 2026. The show runs approximately 2 hours 30 minutes including one intermission and is recommended for ages 6 and up. Tickets can be bought by using the links that can be found on the top of this page.
